Description
Mariner's Hotel, formerly known as Whitmore Close and Morley Cottage, is located on Silver Street. It was previously called the Red Cottage, but the current Red Cottage to the south is a modern building. The hotel consists of two sections with colourwashed fronts. The left part is a single storey with an attic, likely dating from the 17th century, featuring a plaintile roof with a hip on the left side. It has four two-tier casements that project into the roof space, each with gables above. The ground floor has, from left to right, a pair of sash windows, a single sash window, another pair of sash windows, and a six-panel door. The right section is two storeys with an attic and has three window bays, dating from the early 19th century. It features a slate gabled roof with one boxed dormer. The windows include three-light sashes with glazing bars at either end on both the first and ground floors, and a four-pane wide sash window in the centre on the first floor, with a modern brick doorway below. Mariner's Hotel is part of a group that includes Kent House, Woodville, and Springfield.
