Description

The Dorset Hotel dates from the early 19th century. It is a two-storey building with a hipped slate roof and an eaves bracket cornice. The front facade, facing Silver Street, has three window bays with sash windows containing glazing bars above. The ground floor has French casements, and a glass verandah is supported by a trellised structure. A good porch with Ionic columns and pilasters, topped with a dentilled cornice, provides the main entrance from Pound Road. The hotel is stuccoed.

The Dorset Hotel is part of a group of buildings that includes the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael and St George, the Little Place, boundary walls associated with Rosehill and the Old Vicarage, a former stable block, and garden walls along both Burley and Silver Street.
