Description
North Eggardon Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse with side ranges, dating from the 18th century and significantly altered in the early 19th century when wings were added. The building features coursed stone walls, with the central section rendered. It has slate roofs with stone gable copings and stone slabs at the eaves, along with rendered brick stacks at each gable.
The main block is two storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with five windows. These windows are two-light stone mullions with semi-circular heads set within a square head that has a returned label above. The windows were re-fashioned in the 19th century and feature cast-iron glazing bars with Y-heads.
At the center of the facade, there is a two-storey porch topped with a gabled slate roof. The entrance is round-headed, and the front door has four recessed panels with pointed-arch heads, also from the 19th century. A portico with a pentice slate roof is supported by chamfered stone pillars with capitals, and it has three bays on each side, gabled over the front entrance.
To the left, the side range is one bay and two storeys tall, but lower than the main block. Its ground floor features a two-leaf plank door with a segmental stone arch above, along with a two-light wooden casement window with glazing bars. The right-hand range mirrors this style and size, also having two-light wooden casements with glazing bars. At the rear of the main house, there is a continuous outshut with a catslide roof.
