Description

Spyway Cottage is a detached cottage, originally four cottages, dating from the 18th century. The cottage is constructed of rubble stone walls with stone quoins, and has four brick stacks – one at the left-hand gable, two on the ridge, and one at the right-hand gable. It has two storeys and four windows, each with wooden casements featuring glazing bars. The windows have wooden sills and lintels. A French window was inserted in 1932 at what was formerly the right-hand doorway. There is a plank door at the centre of the building. A 20th-century thatch porch canopy with weatherboarding on the gable sits above the entrance. Inside, there's an open fireplace in the north gable end, featuring a cambered wooden lintel and a bread oven in the left-hand jamb. A further open fireplace is located in the centre of the cottage, also with a cambered wooden lintel.
