Description

Askerswell House is a detached house that was formerly a rectory, dated "Deo Gloria 1851" on a canted bay with a stone shield. It features ashlar stone walls with a moulded plinth and slate roofs, including a pentice and a hipped roof on the left side, while the right side has a gabled roof with stone gable coping and kneelers. The house has dressed stone stacks, one at the base of the hip on the left and another projecting stack with set-offs and a moulded cornice on the right gable.

The building is two storeys high with dormers and has three windows on the front entrance elevation, along with a gabled bay to the right. From left to right, the first bay has a pentice bay with three- and two-light stone mullions that have returned labels above, featuring original cast-iron casements with glazing bars and lozenges at the intersections. The second bay includes a two-storey canted bay window with three-light stone mullions on the front and one on each side, also with the same type of casements. Above this is a pedimented dormer with two-light casements.

The third bay contains the front doorway, which has a pointed arch with a label and stops, along with moulded jambs. The door is recessed with a Y-tracery head, and above it is a two-light casement with a label, topped by a pedimented dormer of the usual type. The fourth bay is gabled and features the previously mentioned stack. The south elevation has a canted oriel on the left side and a large three-light casement to the right. Each window bay has a gabled parapet, with an octagonal standard projecting above the apex. The casements are a significant design element of the house.
