Description
The Lookout is a lookout building dating from around 1804, originally constructed for the Excise Service and later altered. It is made of cement-rendered stone and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has an octagonal shape, with a boarded door on the north side set in a segmental-arched surround, and windows on three sides facing the sea. It was built during the Napoleonic Wars as part of the coastal warning system to guard against invasion, but it primarily served as a base for Excisemen combating smuggling.
