Description
Ellerslie Lookout Tower is a lookout tower built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and brick. The original roof has been removed and replaced by an internal corrugated lean-to roof at the first floor level. The tower is octagonal in shape and designed to resemble a Gothic folly. It was formerly two storeys, but the first floor has now been removed. The tower features an embattled parapet and tall pointed arched openings on each side at the first floor, which are alternately blind and open. The east side has 2-light casements on each floor, along with an inserted doorway on the north-west face. The ground floor openings, including the entrance on the west side, have all been infilled. Three wrought iron brackets project from the first floor level on the west side, which may have originally supported a canopy. The tower overlooks the Taw estuary.
