Description
The Rock Point Hotel, located at 1 Broad Street, dates back to 1790 and is a three-storey building constructed of stucco with a slated roof. The first floor features three sash windows with pilastered surrounds, and there is a plain stringcourse running along the building. A moulded cornice and parapet accentuate the top of the structure. To the left, there is a doorway flanked by fluted columns and topped with a moulded and dentilled pedimented hood. On the right side, there are three round-headed windows, with the centre two being coupled; the middle one was likely originally a doorway.
The hotel, along with No 2, forms a group with the Pilot Hotel on Bridge Street, enhancing the view down Broad Street to the southeast. From the sea, the rear faces of Nos 1 and 2 create a cohesive group with the sea walls at Gunn Cliff, the Museum, and the Guildhall on Bridge Street.
