Description

4 and 5 Broad Street are late 16th century to 17th century timber-framed buildings with a plastered exterior and a slate roof. The east and north fronts rise three stories. The east end of No 4 features a paired sash window on the second floor, with single sash windows on either side on the first floor, and an early 20th century shop front at ground level. The north front of No 4 has a sash window on the second floor and a small plate glass shop window on the ground floor.

No 5's north front includes two small shop windows on the ground floor, the left one having glazing bars, and a glazed door. It also has a splayed bay window on the first and second floors, along with sash windows. The south side of No 5 is two stories with an attic. From left to right, it features a two-light casement with small panes above and below, a shop window with leaded panes, and a moulded doorway with angle roundels. To the right, there is one box dormer, a small single-light casement on the first floor, and a half-glazed door with a hood on the ground floor. The interior has exposed ceiling beams.

4 and 5 Broad Street, along with the Bell Cliff Retaining Wall and Railings, and Nos 4 to 10 (consecutive) and 10A Broad Street, form a group.
