Description
35 and 36 St Peter's Street are late 16th century or early 17th century buildings that stand two storeys tall. Above No 36, there is a large later plaster gable, while No 35 features a small stone gable that crowns a shallow, wide, two-storey canted bay with six-light windows on each storey. These windows have moulded stone frames and mullions. Adjacent to this bay is a six-panel door, two of which are glazed. The east wing of the building projects slightly beneath the larger gable and includes a four-light casement window with glazing bars, an end moulded wood mullion, and a transom. Below, there is an attractive early 19th century shop front featuring two round-headed windows with glazing bars and a central rectangular door with glazing bars, all divided by pilasters and with rendered stall risers. No 35 is constructed of ashlar stone, while No 36 is rendered. The buildings have a stone slate roof. The shop front is particularly noted for its significance. These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 26 to 33, a wall in the yard abutting No 37, and stabling to the rear of No 37, as well as Nos 33 to 38 and No 7 St Peter's Hill.
