Description

The well house adjoining the road entrance to Gregwarth Manor Farmhouse dates from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof at the front, which has been replaced with corrugated asbestos at the rear. The building has gable ends and a small rectangular plan, with doorways at either end and a water outlet at the front. On the left-hand side, there is a semi-circular wall that ends in a square gate-pier. Inside the well house, there is a carved granite sump with a spout that used to carry water from a former iron pump to a granite trough located in front of the well house. The well house retains its original granite lintelled doorways and old ledged doors.
