Description
St Andrew's Church is an Anglican church built in 1881. It is constructed from granite rubble with freestone dressings and has slate roofs. The church has a simple two-cell layout, consisting of a nave and a chancel. At the west end, there is a bellcote, and the church features a south porch and a vestry on the north side of the chancel.
The exterior of the nave includes double lancet windows with hoodmoulds and buttresses in between. The east and west ends have triple lancet windows, while the vestry has a two-light plate-tracery window. The gabled stone bellcote is located over the west end, and the south porch has a chamfered two-centred arch with a similar inner doorway. The ledged door is fitted with wrought-iron strap hinges.
Inside, the church features scissor-braced roof trusses with collar and king-posts above, and the stone walls are exposed. The interior includes benches, an altar, a Communion rail, and stained glass windows on the east and north sides. At the west end of the nave is Merritt's Organ, a Victorian organ originally from Illogan church, which was played by Thomas Merritt, a Cornish composer. This church is a complete example of a late Victorian Early English style two-cell church.
