Description
Nos. 19-22 on New Bridge Street in Truro is a row of four houses that have been converted into shops with accommodation above. These buildings date from the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are finished in stucco with some areas of dry slate hanging and feature a hipped asbestos slate roof. A cast-iron ogee gutter is present at the end of No. 19, which is on the left side.
The buildings have a rectangular plan, with four shops at the front and shallow service rooms at the rear. They rise to three storeys and present an overall six-window range, although the second bay from the left is blind. The shopfronts were altered in the 20th century: Nos. 19 and 20 have identical shopfronts beneath the same moulded entablature with fascia and spandrel brackets; No. 21 features a moulded entablature with fascia and a cornice supported by consoles; and No. 22 has a possible 19th-century fascia that is obscured by a 20th-century sign.
The windows include late 19th-century horned four-pane sashes, while the second floor has early 19th-century sixteen-pane sashes, with copies on the first floor of No. 22. There is also a tall early 19th-century stair sash with glazing bars at the rear. Additionally, No. 19 has early 19th-century twelve-pane sashes on the upper floors of its left-hand return wall. The interiors have not been inspected.
