Description

Nos 373, 375, and 377 High Street are a row of three houses, now combined at ground level as shops. They date from the 18th century, with possible origins around 1600 at the eastern end. The buildings are finished with stucco render over brick and rise to three storeys. The front features a seven-window arrangement, with Nos 375 and 377 at the east each having two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor and two 9-pane sash windows on the second floor, all with glazing bars. No 373 at the west has three windows on both the first and second floors: two outer 16-pane sash windows and one central 12-pane sash window on the first floor, and two outer 12-pane sash windows with a central 9-pane sash window on the second floor, all with glazing bars. Rusticated pilaster strips separate each bay of No 373 and each double bay of Nos 375 and 377. The windows are framed with architrave surrounds. The parapet hides three different roof structures: No 377 has an end gable with the ridge parallel to the facade, while No 375 and No 373 have hipped roofs at right angles to the facade. The ground floor has been replaced by 20th-century shop fronts. Inside, No 377 contains a single ground floor chamber with four stopped and chamfered girder beams and deep set joists, indicating the incorporation of a structure from around 1600. Other interiors have not been seen.
