Description
No. 5 Quay Street is a town house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates from the 18th century and features stucco on studwork at the front, while the rest of the building is made of painted rubble. The roof is a fairly steep 20th-century scantle slate with a half hip on the right side, and it includes three hipped dormers as well as a hipped rear wing that has a 20th-century triangular dormer on its right. There are brick stacks located on the right. The building has a single-depth plan with a one-room-plan wing at the back on the right side. It stands two storeys high, plus attics, and has a three-window range. The windows are late 19th-century or 20th-century four-pane horned sashes set within wooden moulded architraves. The ground floor features a late 19th-century corner shop front, which includes a doorway at the splayed corner on the right, a three-light shop window at the front, and a one-light window on the return. The ground floor also has a plinth, consoles above scribed pilasters, and a sloping fascia with a moulded cornice. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
