Description

Nos. 2-5 Wellington Street are three early 19th century houses that now feature six shops on the ground floors. The shop front of No. 2, located on the left, dates to the late 19th century, while the others are from the late 20th century. The buildings are finished in painted stucco with slate roofs, and they have stacks at the party walls of the original houses, with brick on the left and rendered material on the right. The houses are arranged in a double depth plan and rise three storeys. Each house typically has a three-window range, except for No. 2, which has a two-window range. The second-floor windows are 3/6-pane sashes, while the first-floor windows are 6/6-pane sashes.

The late 19th-century shop front of No. 2 features moulded plinths for the canted bays, moulded frames for the plate-glass windows, and a half-glazed door with overlights. It also has a continuous heavy modillion cornice that creates a porch with a panelled soffit. Above the shop, there are two niches containing statues. No. 5 has been connected to a former house at the rear in Triangle Place. This mid-19th-century facade is also stucco with a slate roof and consists of two storeys with a one-window range. It features a moulded bargeboard on a shallow-pitched forward-facing gable, raised quoins, and a gable band. The semicircular-arched window has a raised surround, pilasters, moulded caps, and a pyramidal moulded keystone, with two horizontal panes in each horned sash. A 20th-century shop is located below this window. The interior has not been inspected.
