Description

This is a town house with later shops, dating from the early to mid-19th century, situated on Market Strand in Falmouth. The building is constructed of coursed squared rubble with an asbestos slate roof, projecting eaves, a brick end stack on the left-hand side, rendered stacks on the right, and cast-iron ogee gutters. It follows a double-depth plan and is three storeys high, originally containing a three-window front. The upper floors feature shallow segmental brick arches with keyblocks over original 12-pane hornless sash windows, with some first-floor windows now blind. The ground floor has been altered with a pair of late 19th-century shop fronts—one to the left and one to the right—featuring a moulded entablature with a fascia, consoles over panelled end pilasters, and panelled door reveals. Each shop front includes a splayed return light to the left of the transomed shop window, as well as overlights and glazed doors. The interior of the shops is simple, and the remainder of the building was not inspected.
