The New Lodge Building To East Adjoining Wall And Gate-Piers

The New Lodge, built around 1860, is an east lodge that includes adjoining walls and gate-piers with a gate. It features slatestone walls with freestone and granite dressings, and a dry Delabole slate roof with pierced clay ridge tiles and finials. The roof is half-hipped at both the east and west ends, and has a polygonal shape over the south wing, which projects eaves. There are external lateral gabled stacks on the north wall and the east wall of the south wing, each with grouped and linked round shafts. The building has an irregular three-room T-plan with an integral lean-to porch in the southwest angle and is designed in a High Victorian Gothic style, standing two storeys tall.

The south front has a projecting central wing with a canted front and a polygonal roof, featuring a partly slate-hung gable above two shouldered arch lights that serve as the first-floor window. The three ground-floor windows are two-light designs, with a string course above that continues around the sides. On the right side, there is a large lateral stack with set-offs, three round shafts, and an oven at the base. The left side includes a porch in the angle, featuring an arched doorway. The porch roof extends from the main roof and is supported on a corbel above a weathered buttress. The left and right ends and the rear of the main range have stone mullion windows, and the rear wall has another similar lateral stack.

The building to the east serves as a fuel store and earth closet, topped with a hipped scantle slate roof. The adjoining wall encloses a courtyard at the rear of the lodge and connects to the estate boundary wall, which has a carriage entrance to the southwest of the lodge. The gateway features square-on-plan granite monolith piers with stop-chamfered edges and caps with sloping sides and flat square bases, presumably intended for statues.
