Description
The Harbour Master's Office and Shop is a town house with a later shop, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from Killas rubble with dressed granite quoins, featuring a first-floor window head course with keyed flat arches, sills, and a mid-floor string course to the right of the shop front. The building has a hipped scantle slate roof and a double-depth plan. It stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes.
On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century canted shop front on the left, which includes a moulded entablature and a dentilled cornice. To the right, there is a square-headed pilastered doorcase with a round-arched plain fanlight above a later pair of panelled and glazed doors. The rear of the building is symmetrical, also two storeys over a basement with three windows. It retains original 12-pane hornless sashes, except for a later 19th-century canted bay in the centre of the first floor, with masonry details similar to the front elevation.
Inside, there is an original open-well staircase with a closed string, stick balusters, and a ramped handrail, although the rest of the interior has not been inspected.
