Description
The Working Boats Office is a harbour office built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from Killas rubble with some granite dressings and features a dry Delabole slate hipped roof. The building has a small rectangular plan with two rooms, plus a later lean-to on the right side. It is a single-storey structure with a symmetrical front that has two windows and the lean-to. The windows are 20th-century copies of 16-pane hornless sashes. The central doorway has a stone key and imposts above a brick arch, leading to a late 19th or 20th-century V-jointed ledged door. Inside, the passage is paved with granite flags. Notably, the painter Henry Tuke used this building as a studio. The office is situated on the 17th-century Town Quay and is part of an important group that includes the Custom House.
