Description
Polperro Bakery is a house and bakery that likely dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. There is a rendered stone rubble chimney stack with a brick shaft located on the left-hand gable end. The original internal layout is uncertain, but the building has a single depth main range and probably a later shallow projecting wing at the center of the front, with a stack on the higher left-hand gable end. The front elevation is asymmetrical and has two storeys, with three storeys to the right where the ground slopes down. This side includes a plank door leading to a store. The left side has one window, and there is a gabled projection at the center with 20th-century two-light casements. On the ground floor of the projection, there is a small low 20th-century shop front and a 20th-century panelled door to the left, which has a slated canopy in the angle. The interior of the bakery has been altered with 20th-century fittings. The bakery has been in operation for over 100 years and is included for its group value.
