Description
Kirk House, in Lansallos, Polperro, is a former 1838 chapel built of stone rubble with brick dressings. It was originally constructed on a rectangular plan, with alterations made later. The building has a slate roof with gable ends. The front elevation is almost symmetrical, designed with a two-window gabled form, and the ground slopes steeply on the Talland Street side.
The entrance is in the gable end, likely originally intended to have a gallery above. The ground floor now features two 20th-century three-light shop windows of differing width, flanking a central 20th-century part-glazed door under a near-semicircular hood. A datestone sits above the entrance. Above the shopfront are two rounded-headed sash windows with gothic glazing bars set within round brick arches. The corner of the front elevation on the left side is splayed as Talland Hill curves around. The right-hand side wall, facing Talland Street, originally had tall, round-headed windows, which have been altered, but the round brick window arches are still visible. A small basement is set on the lower right-hand side, featuring two reused chamfered timber lintels with run-out stops.
