Description
Demelza Tamara is a house, likely built in the mid-18th century, that has been divided into two cottages. It features painted and rendered stone rubble with a cement-washed scantle slate roof, which has a gabled end on the left and a hipped end on the right. There is a brick chimney stack on the left gable end and a large projecting stone rubble chimney stack with a cloam oven projection set back on the hipped right end. An outshut, which is slate-hung, cantilevers out over the stream at the hipped end.
Originally, the house probably had a two-room plan with a central through or cross passage. The lower right room was likely the kitchen, indicated by the large projecting end stack, while the left room served as the parlour, also with an end stack. The building has been subdivided into two one-room cottages, with outshuts added to the rear of the left cottage and at the side of the right cottage.
The front of the building is three storeys high and has a regular two-window arrangement. The ground floor features two 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars and two 20th-century gabled porches at the centre with glazed doors. The first and second floors each have two two-light casements with glazing bars.
Inside Tamara, there are ceiling beams from around the late 18th century and a chimney piece with a renewed timber lintel. A 20th-century stair is located at the rear of Tamara. The interior of Demelza has not been inspected.
