Description

Temple Cottage is a building that dates from the late 18th century and was extended at the front left in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, topped with a slate and asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends. The projecting wing on the front left has a rag slate roof with a gable end at the front and a hipped end at the rear. The gable end of the front projecting wing was partly rebuilt in the mid to late 20th century using concrete block. There is a brick chimney stack on the left-hand gable end of the rear range.

The building likely follows a two-room and cross passage plan, with a narrow passage known as Squeeze-Belly Alley located on the right-hand side. It was further extended on the left-hand side with a one-room cottage in the early to mid 19th century, resulting in an overall 'L' shaped plan.

The structure is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical two-window front. The main range has a partly glazed door near the angle with the projecting wing on the left, a sash window near the centre, and an entrance to Squeeze-Belly Alley on the right. The first floor includes a 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash window. The projecting wing has a casement window in a blocked door opening on the ground floor and a 20-pane sash window above from the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected.
