Description
Little Dolphins is a house, originally with a shop on the ground floor, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble, with the front elevation plastered. The roof is made of cement-washed slate and features a canted hipped end, deep overhanging eaves, and a rendered side lateral brick chimney stack.
The building's plan has been altered; it likely originally included shop premises at the front with an entrance on the canted side elevation and another entrance to the dwelling on Dolphin Street to the left. The house has two storeys and an attic, with an asymmetrical single-window front facing Middle Street. The ground floor features a 19th-century 24-pane shop window with heavy glazing bars, incised pilasters, and a moulded cornice. The first floor has a 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window with a moulded exposed sash box, and there is a 20th-century full-dormer window in the attic above.
On the left side, there is a canted corner with a 20th-century part-glazed stable-type door and a 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window above it. The side elevation facing Dolphin Street has a blocked door on the ground floor, a 20th-century window, and a 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window above. The interior has not been inspected.
