Description

Greengates is a former chandlery that has been converted into a private house, dating from around the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble with brick dressings, topped by a slate roof and featuring brick chimney stacks at the hipped ends. It has a single-depth layout, likely with a two-room plan, and a staircase located to the left of the entrance. The plan was altered during its conversion to a domestic dwelling, which included the addition of an external staircase on the right side for access to the upper floor, as well as modifications to the loading bay with a hoist on the left side.

The building stands three storeys high and has a regular three-window front. The ground floor features a central wide partly glazed double door, with a 19th-century six-pane sash window to the left and a cross window to the right. Both the first and second floors contain three six-pane sash windows, with a narrow stair window likely inserted to the left of the centre. The left side wall includes a loading door on the second floor, which has a 20th-century glazed door and a teagle hoist above it. The right side wall is accessed by stone rubble steps leading up to a first-floor opening, which is adorned with a 19th-century wrought-iron balustrade and a partly glazed four-panel door. The interior has not been inspected.
