Description

Hillside is a house dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, situated at the higher end of a terrace in Polperro. The house is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with a rag slate roof. It has a half-hipped front elevation facing the harbour and a hipped rear elevation. Chimney stacks are present, one of stone rubble with a brick shaft at the front corner, and another of stone rubble with a brick shaft on the higher rear end.

The building is built into the hillside on a steep slope, creating a three-storey elevation overlooking the harbour, and a two-storey elevation on the Talland Hill side. The house has a double depth plan with an entrance hall on the left-hand side, where the staircase is located at the rear. A rear doorway likely leads to the first landing of the stairs. The front elevation, facing the harbour, features a regular arrangement of windows. It includes a partly glazed 20th-century door with a slate hood on the ground floor, and a 12-pane sash window to the right. Above the ground floor, the right-hand side of the wall projects slightly, with 12-pane sash windows on the first and second floors. The rear elevation on Talland Hill has a 20th-century window on the left, a 20th-century door on the right, and a 4-light casement window above with glazing bars. The interior of the house was not inspected.
