Description
Nos 5 and 7 Church Hill are two houses dating from around the mid-19th century. They feature a stone rubble basement, with slate-hung upper sections, although the front of number 5 has some slate hanging replaced with asbestos slate. The slate roof has hipped ends and deep overhanging eaves, and there is a brick chimney stack on the side elevation that is corbelled out above the basement.
The layout likely consists of two one-room houses, with number 5 at the front. It has an entrance on the right leading to a stair hall and another entrance on the left to the basement. Number 7, located at the rear, has a side entrance. The front elevation facing Church Hill is two storeys with a basement, while the rear elevation facing Middle Street is three storeys, and there is a side elevation connecting to another road.
The front of number 5 has a regular single-window arrangement with sash windows that have been replaced with 20th-century PVC fenestration. There are 19th-century six-panel doors to the basement on the left and the entrance on the right. The elevation for number 7 features a 20th-century door and three original 19th-century sashes with margin glazing bars and moulded, exposed sash boxes. The interior of number 5 retains its 19th-century stair, which has a wreathed and ramped rail with stick balusters. This building forms part of a group of structures on Church Hill.
