Description

The Harbour Cafe is a building that was likely constructed in the 18th century and has been remodeled in the mid to late 20th century. Originally two cottages, it is now a cafe. The exterior features rendered and painted stone rubble, with painted slate hanging above the ground floor at the front. The roof is cement-washed slate with gable ends, and there is a further parallel range at the rear covered with an asbestos slate roof. The building's plan has been altered, likely transforming the original two 2-room cottages into a double depth range by removing internal partitions.

The structure stands two storeys high with an asymmetrical five-window front facing Fore Street. It has what are probably 19th-century 12-pane and 24-pane sash windows to the left of the center and a 20th-century partly glazed door to the right. The first floor features five 20th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars. Illustrations from the 1920s show that this elevation has undergone significant remodeling. Inside, the front range has light chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, while the rear has heavier, roughly-cut ceiling beams that may be reused. The building has important elevations facing both Fore Street and Middle Street, opposite the Platt.
