Description
House. The building likely dates to around the early 19th century, though it may have earlier origins and was remodelled in the early 19th century. It is built with a softwood frame, rendered and stuccoed, with the first and second floors jutting out. The roof is slate with gable ends and a brick chimney stack on the left-hand gable.
The house has a double-depth, two-room plan, approximately one room wide. The entrance is on the right, leading to a staircase in a passage, with a smaller service room to the rear on the left.
The building is three storeys and has an attic. The front is regular, with a splayed corner on the right-hand side of the ground floor. The ground floor has a 19th-century sash window with removed glazing bars on the left and a 19th-century four-panelled door on the right. The first and second floors are jettied, each with 19th-century four-pane sashes and moulded, exposed sash boxes.
Inside, the ground floor has 19th-century ceiling beams, a 19th-century chimney-piece with a cast iron grate, and a 19th-century staircase. The upper floors are not accessible.
The jutting upper floors suggest an early date for the building but there is little evidence to confirm this. If the building has earlier origins, any original features have been completely covered by the early 19th-century remodelling.
