Description

The Old Bake House is a pair of cottages that were originally a bakehouse, now serving as a shop and offices. It dates from the early 18th century. The building features limestone rubble that is painted on the front, with freestone quoin to the left, architraves, and a plinth. The roof is made of plain tiles and is half-hipped to the right.

The structure has two storeys and a one-window range. The central doorcase has cyma-moulding, and there are stone mullions supporting 3-light windows with leaded casements on the right side of both floors. To the left, there is a 19th-century one-and-a-half storey symmetrical shop front that includes a dentilled cornice on the fascia, flanked by consoles supported by fluted pilasters. The door and overlight are set back from the front. The right side of the building has 20th-century windows.

Inside, there are rough axial beams on both floors with exposed rafters, although most of these are 20th-century additions. The Old Bake House is contemporary with No. 19, with which it shares a roof.
