Description
17 and 17A Market Place is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the 16th century or earlier and features a timber-framed structure with a steeply-pitched stone slate roof. The roof includes a small hipped dormer and a brick ridge stack located to the left of center. The building has a two-unit through-passage plan that runs parallel to the street, with a probable early 18th-century extension at the rear left.
The exterior consists of two storeys with an attic and has a three-window range. On the first floor, there are small plate-glass sash windows set between the wide studding, with the windows on the right being paired. The ground floor has 20th-century doors, one positioned to the right of the stack and another at the far left. The 20th-century shop front on the ground floor is stepped forward and features stone slate weathering. Inside, the ground floor has chamfered beams, while the first floor and attic are not accessible.
