Description
Caretaker's Cottage to the Jubilee Building, also known as No. 32, is a cottage located at the rear of the Jubilee Building in Chippenham. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone alterations. The structure is built from coursed limestone rubble with freestone quoins, featuring a rendered gable end at the rear. The first floor on the south side is constructed of early 19th-century brick, and it has a double-Roman tile roof.
The cottage is two storeys high with an attic and has a single-unit plan. The south side features a doorway with a flat hood supported by brackets. The rear east side includes a timber lintel and ovolo-moulded mullions supporting a three-light casement window, which has a 19th-century central leaf flanked by leaded panes in the attic. The first-floor window has been altered. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the 17th-century fabric likely represents the remaining part of a larger townhouse, the front of which was rebuilt as the Jubilee Building.
