Description
No. 26 Market Place is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted Flemish-bond brick and features a hipped slate roof with a large central brick ridge stack. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The front and ground-floor rear have 20th-century windows and a door. The early 19th-century second-floor windows consist of 3/6-panes, while the first floor has 6/6-panes and 4/4-panes. A brick dentil cornice and a wrought-iron bracketed gutter adorn the exterior.
On the ground floor, to the left, there is a semicircular arch over a public footpath passage leading to the churchyard, and to the right, a similar arch leads over a set-back door. Inside, there is a segmental arch at the foot of the stairs to the right, featuring reeded moulding, with a similar wider arch on the first floor. The first floor also includes some moulded architraves and a reeded cornice, along with turned newels, boarded-in stick balusters, and a painted stone fireplace on the second floor.
