Description
The building is the Wiltshire County Council Offices and County and Magistrates' Court, originally a house from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins, a parapet, and dressings, topped with a hipped stone slate roof on the left. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a seven-window range. The raised quoins and architraves suggest that the first floor may have been rendered in the past. It features cyma-moulded architraves around 6/6-pane sash windows on the first floor, while the ground floor has plate-glass sashes. An ashlar eaves band, cornice, and parapet adorn the front and the one-window left return on Timber Street, where the ground-floor window's architrave includes a cornice. There is a narrow ashlar lintel band at the ground floor and a worn chamfered capping on a rubblestone plinth at the front. To the right of the centre, there is a Tuscan doorcase with engaged columns supporting an entablature and pediment. A step leads up to a 19th-century four-panel door that is glazed at the top. The interior has been altered.
