Description
Penpont House is a house that likely dates from the early 19th century, possibly built on an earlier site. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a slate roof with hipped ends, featuring a gable end on the lower range to the right. The end stacks are rendered. The building has a front range designed with a two-room and cross passage layout, along with an integral one-room service wing at the rear right, creating an overall 'L' shaped plan. Each of the main rooms is heated by end stacks. There is a service outshut to the rear of the left-hand room from the early 19th century, along with a later 20th-century extension at the back. The one-room service wing on the right side dates from the early to mid-19th century and is also heated by an end stack.
The exterior features two storeys and a symmetrical three-window front with brick surrounds and segmental arches over the window openings. The central entrance consists of a 19th-century six-panel door with a fanlight, flanked by two 19th-century 16-pane sash windows. Above, there are three similar sash windows. To the right, there is a lower range with a single-storey lean-to across the front.
Inside, the ground floor partitions in the front range have been removed. The left-hand room contains a 19th-century Delabole slate chimney-piece, and there is a 19th-century staircase located at the rear of the passage.
