Description

Well Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and cob, with rag slates hung on the front elevation and a bitumen-coated rag slate roof. The building features a projecting end stack on the right side. The layout consists of a two-room single depth plan, with the entrance located to the left of center. The larger hall kitchen on the right is heated by the end stack, while the smaller unheated room on the left is adjacent. There is a small lean-to extension from the 19th century on the right side and a 20th-century extension on the left, which includes one room and the entrance.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical arrangement of windows, with a 1:2 configuration. The earlier range on the right has a gabled porch from the 19th century, which is slate hung and features a late 19th-century door with decorative wrought-iron hinges. To the left, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window, and to the right, a 19th-century three-light casement window. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century two-light casements. The 20th-century extension on the left includes a modern door to the right, with a slate open-fronted lean-to porch across the front and a 20th-century six-pane window on the first floor. The lean-to extension on the right is also noted. The interior has not been inspected.
