Description
The Pottery is a house that was originally a house and smithy, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and cob, with the front wall covered in painted asbestos sheeting. The roof is made of rag slate and features gable ends. There is a projecting stone rubble stack on the right and a brick axial stack to the left of the center. The building has a three-room layout, likely with a cross passage. The kitchen is located on the right and is heated by the end stack, while the small central room and the inner room beyond to the left are heated by the axial stack, which has back-to-back fireplaces. In the 19th century, the building was extended to the left with an outshut that originally contained the smithy. This outshut was later extended to two storeys and converted into living space.
The exterior is two storeys high with a long asymmetrical front that has six windows. The entrance is to the right of center and features a 20th-century porch. To the left of the entrance, there is a three-light casement window, and to the right, there are two 2-light casements along with a wide opening that originally led to the smithy. On the first floor, there are six 2-light casements, sash windows, and one light casement. Inside, 19th-century floor joists are exposed.
