Description

Dormer Cottage and Byeways are a pair of probably 18th-century cottages located in Gerrans, Portscatho. They are built of painted slatestone rubble and cob, with scantle slate roofs and brick chimneys on the gable ends and party wall. The cottages have a large external breast to the lower end. Each cottage has a central stair plan and two rooms. Byeways, the left-hand cottage, is slightly narrower and projects to the rear. Both cottages are two storeys and have nearly symmetrical two-window fronts with central doorways. They feature six-pane two-light casement windows on the ground floor and four-pane casement windows to the first floor. A narrow recess sits between the cottages. The rear displays good cob texture. The interiors were not inspected.
