Description
The Boatmens Shelter is an early 19th-century structure located on the north side of The Lugger in Portscatho, Gerrans. It features painted slatestone rubble walls and a pyramidal grouted, scantle slate roof. The building has a square, one-room plan and is single-storey, overlooking the harbour to the east.
The south entrance front includes a central doorway with a split stable-type boarded door. To the left of the doorway, there is a small window or ventilator opening that has been blocked. The west wall boasts a large central three-light casement window, with six panes per light and a twelve-pane overlight above the transom. The east wall is highlighted by a central bay window that overlooks the harbour, featuring a twelve-pane horizontal sliding sash and six-pane sidelights. The interior is simple, and the original roof structure remains intact.
