Description

Portscatho United Reformed Church is a Nonconformist chapel built in 1822. It features stucco over rubble walls and a dry Delabole slate roof with gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan, with a rostrum at the east end, a gallery at the west end, and a north porch. Designed in a simple Early English Gothic style, it is a single-storey structure with three windows on the north entrance front.

The main entrance porch is located between the second and third windows and has a central pointed doorway with double wooden doors that have elaborate iron hinges and a plaster hoodmould. The exterior includes two-tier diagonal buttresses with offsets, exposed purlin ends, and a rafter gable topped with a turned finial and pendant. There is an additional pointed doorway with a hoodmould on the far right. The wooden windows each contain two pointed arched lights set within pointed arched openings, also featuring hoodmoulds.

Inside, the church has a little altered interior with a segmental arched plaster ceiling that includes a moulded cornice decorated with acanthus and roses. The central rose has similar detailing, along with two additional roses featuring Greek key designs. The gallery front displays blind intersecting round arches, and there is a cast iron wall candelabra. The rostrum has been slightly altered, and the pulpit dates from around 1920.
