Description
Old Malt House is a former malt house that has been converted into a house, located at the end of a row in West Looe. It is likely from the early 19th century, built on an older site. The exterior features painted rubble with asbestos slate-hanging on the studwork of the first floor, and it jetties over the carriageway on the left-hand return. The roof is dry slate and hipped on the left, with a brick stack on that side. The building has a double-depth plan and is two storeys tall with a two-window range.
The original windows are 16-pane hornless sashes, and there is a central doorway on the first floor, which has a 20th-century door and overlight. This doorway is accessed by a flight of rubble steps with slate treads, and it has an original wrought-iron balustrade with turned cast-iron finials. On the ground floor, there is a sash window under the left-hand sash. The left-hand return also features a two-window range, with an original sash on the left and a 20th-century narrow central window. The ground floor has a central doorway flanked by large window openings, which contain 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
