Description
This is a row of shops located at 3-6 Arwenack Street in Falmouth, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The exterior is finished in stucco with quoin strips, likely over rubble, and features slate hanging at the rear. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and has projecting eaves, with brick stacks including an end stack on the left and a central axial stack. The building has a double-depth plan that is irregular at the rear and stands three storeys high, with a four-window range.
No. 3, on the left, retains original hornless sash windows with glazing bars, as do the second floor windows of Nos. 5 and 6, while the other windows have later horned sashes. The ground floor contains four shop fronts: No. 3 has a late 19th-century three-light shop front; No. 5 features a late 19th-century double shop front with quadrant panes flanking a central doorway; No. 4 has an early 20th-century shop front, all with end pilasters; and No. 6 has a late 20th-century shop front. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
