Description
30 and 31 Church Street is a town house that was later converted into a pair of shops. It likely dates from the 18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century. The building features stucco on studwork and has a dry slate hipped roof with a brick end stack on the right. It has a deep plan that includes a rear wing on the left. The structure stands three storeys high and has a three-window range. The late 19th-century windows are paired 2-pane horned sashes.
The ground floor showcases a rare pair of early 19th-century shop fronts. The left-hand shop front (No. 31) has fairly small panes, while No. 30 features smaller panes with thinner glazing bars and a quadrant plan clasping corner on the right. Both shop fronts have a squat moulded entablature with fascia jambs, corner blocks, and roundels, along with original overlights and later doors. There is also a passage doorway between the shop doorways. The early 19th-century shop fronts are exceptionally complete and are considered early examples of their type. The interior has not been inspected.
