Description
27 and 28 Church Street is a pair of shops built in the mid-19th century. The exterior features incised stucco on studwork, with quoin strips and moulded architraves. The original roof is made of scantle slate, and there are brick end stacks along with two gabled dormers. A cast-iron ogee gutter is also present. The building has a double-depth plan with rear wings, standing three storeys high plus attics, and has a two-window range. The late 19th-century windows are four-pane horned sashes. The ground floor includes recessed 20th-century shop fronts framed by a late 19th-century moulded entablature, which has consoles, a fascia, and fluted end pilasters from former shop fronts. The rear of the building features a symmetrical three-window garden front made of painted rubble with original 12-pane hornless sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
