Description
27 and 28 Queen Street are two shops dating from the early 19th century, constructed of stucco with a tiled roof and a brick chimney. The building has three storeys and features a seven-window range, with a top cornice and a flat pilaster to the right of the fourth bay. The ground floor has mid-19th century and 20th century shop fronts; the shop front for No. 27 includes a mid-19th century consoled cornice, a plate-glass window, and a recessed entrance with a half-glazed door behind a gate. The returns to the window and entrance are fitted with mirrors. The first floor showcases windows with rusticated wedge lintels and fluted keystones, while the windows on the first and second floors have four-pane sashes with horns. The windows in the fifth to seventh bays are lower, with the second floor windows being larger. There is a cross-axial stack. The interior of No. 27 retains original fittings, including gas lamps and shelves, which are a rare survival. No. 28 features cornices that extend around the beams, and the first floor has a staircase with column-on-vase balusters.
