Description
The British Legion is a club premises located on Arwenack Street in Falmouth, dating from around 1870. The building features a granite ashlar front and slate hanging at the rear, with a roof that is not visible. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Italianate style, standing two storeys high with a three-bay front. The facade includes a plinth, channelled rustication on the first floor with moulded architraves, and on the ground floor, there are moulded imposts supporting round arches with stepped keyblocks. A mid-floor band and a moulded eaves cornice add to the architectural detailing. The first floor has late 19th-century horned sash windows above a 20th-century window and two doors, each with two-pane fanlights. The building presents a prominent facade in a fine street and is included for its group value. The interior has not been inspected.
