Description
This early 19th-century workshop and store is located at the rear of number 23 in Falmouth, built into a bank at the front. The basement level is constructed with painted rubble, while the upper level has painted slate hanging on a timber studwork frame, topped by an asbestos slate hipped roof. The building has a symmetrical two-window front with original 16-pane hornless sash windows flanking a central flush-panelled door. A similar sash window is located under a former gas light stump at the rear basement level, and another sash on the return side, with the top half replaced by a horned copy. Inside, remnants of a 19th-century cast-iron range remain, and the floorboards show considerable wear in places, indicating the former presence of partitions. It represents a well-preserved example of this building type, connected to the harbourside activities of the port.
