Description

This is a terrace of five small houses, four forming a row with an additional house situated at the rear. Number 12A appears to date from the early 19th century, while the rest of the terrace was built around 1860, as indicated by a datestone. The construction utilizes local killas rubble with shallow, segmental brick arches. The roofs are covered with original grouted scantle slate on numbers 6, 8 (left side), and 12A; asbestos slate on numbers 10 and 12; and feature brick axial stacks. Cast-iron ogee gutters are present, and number 12A is finished with slate hanging on a studwork frame. The buildings have a shallow double-depth plan, with number 12A located behind numbers 8 and 10.

The terrace is two storeys high, with a basement to the rear, and has a regular four-window front. The windows are original 12-pane hornless sashes, with the exception of the first floor to the right side of numbers 8 and 12, where the glazing bars have been removed and replaced with a 20th-century copy, and the ground floor of number 12 which also has a 20th-century horned sash. The original doorways are elliptical-arched and pilastered. Three central doorways serve as house entrances, flanked by an opening used as a doorway, with two doorways at each end. The original four-panel doors remain, with a 20th-century replacement at number 12. The rear of the properties retains mostly original sashes, with 12-pane sashes except for number 12A, which has 16-pane sashes. The interiors were not inspected but are likely to remain largely unaltered from their original condition.
