Description
These are a pair of small houses, built in the mid-19th century. They are located on the northeast side of New Street in Falmouth, with an attached churchyard wall. The houses are constructed with stucco over a rubble base, and have an asbestos slate hipped roof with rendered stacks at each end. They are built to a double-depth plan, and have a symmetrical four-window facade with a central pair of elliptical-arched doorways. The original windows in No. 4 (the right-hand house) are 12-pane hornless sashes; No. 2 appears to have hornless plate-glass sashes and may originally have had sashes with glazing bars which have since been removed. The doorways have plain overlights and 4-panel doors. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. To the left of No. 2’s garden is a churchyard wall, which is low rubble construction with a hog's back granite coping. This is surmounted by wrought-iron railings featuring fleur-de-lis finials. A gate with similar detail is flanked by slender granite monolith piers, topped with ball finials. The site is included on the list for group value.
